Google and its legal woes are like two inseparable twins. However, the company is getting into some bigger trouble in its home country. The internet search had been accused of favoring its services while delivering search results to the users and there had been enough complaints to push Federal Trade Commission to contemplate issuing civil investigative notice to the firm.

With tons of legal proceedings pending against the company in Europe and elsewhere, you may think that Google is now well versed with dealing such situations. However, its latest predicament is of higher magnitude. The new investigation is likely to have deep impact on Google’s ability to branch itself out in related verticals.

In the past, Google had to walk away from quite a few lucrative deals due to antitrust concerns. Its search partnership talks with Yahoo fell through and it also had to temporarily abandon its book digitization program. The complaints against Google have come from a wide variety of companies ranging from Expedia to Microsoft.

Google currently commands about two-third of internet search market with Yahoo and Bing trailing behind it. According to latest figures, Yahoo and Bing holds 16 percent and 14 percent market share respectively. Google is already being probed by the European Commission on the similar charges of stifling competition.
